Below is a chronology of events leading to Opening Day for the Oakland County Cruisers’ inaugural 2009 professional baseball season.
Dec. 20, 2007 – Baseball Heroes of Oakland County, LP announces it has acquired the Midwest Sliders of the Frontier League of Professional Baseball from Midwest Sports Authority, with plans to operate it as a “road” team for the 2008 season and then moving it into the Partnership’s new 3,782-seat ball park in Waterford Twp. for 2009.
May 21, 2008 – The Midwest Sliders play their first game under new ownership against the Traverse City Beach Bums.
June 2008 – Projected groundbreaking for the Oakland County Cruisers’ new ball park, which will be highlighted by a tented silver-shovel sunset ceremony with celebrities in attendance and punctuated by a fireworks display.
December 2008 – The Southeast Michigan Community Baseball Foundation will hold its inaugural Hot Stove League Dinner at the Summit Place Mall with sports figures in attendance, door prizes, buffet-style ballpark fare and a silent auction. Proceeds to benefit area charities.
May 2009 – The Oakland County Cruisers play their first home game in the new ball park.
