One third through the
2008 Season
With exactly one-third of the
2008 season under their belts, the Midwest Sliders have righted the ship. Standing at 12-20, the ball club skippered by
Eric Coleman has taken three of the last four series with a rubber match slated
in Washington
as today’s home page is being written.
The team has shored up its
offense with the additions of second baseman Sam Deluca, corner man Miguel
Magrass and catcher Domenic Lombardi.
Southpaw John O’Hara has added strength to the Sliders starting rotation
and Ryan MacFarlane has brought some much needed stability to the bullpen.
“We realize we can’t go
anywhere until we reach .500, so we’ve set our sights on that objective with
the understanding that we have to take things one game at a time,” said
Coleman.
Reflective of their
hard-nosed play on the field, the club set a new Frontier League record by
playing in eight consecutive one-run games.
“Of course, we’d like to have been on the winning end of a couple more
of those contests,” said team president & general manager Rob
Hilliard. But we have license to do some
damage in this league before the season’s over.
Stadium Update
CM McCarthy & Smith has
received more than 200 bid packages from potential subcontractors and will be
spending the next few weeks conducting post-bid interviews before decisions are
made regarding the awarding of contracts.
Meanwhile, Baseball Heroes of
Oakland County is close to finalizing agreements to share 1,300 parking spaces
in the immediate vicinity of the stadium site – agreements which must be in
place and signed by the Township before construction can begin.
Managing partner Rob Hilliard
projects an early- to mid-August groundbreaking and expects to have a formal
announcement regarding timing within the next few weeks.
